Time Management Tips for Students

By Niluka Raman

Time is one of the most valuable thing a student has. With classes, homework, exams, and sometimes part-time jobs or extracurriculars, it can feel like there’s never enough time. But with good time management, you can get more done and still have time to relax. Here are some easy tips to help you manage your time better:

1. Make a Daily Schedule

Write down what you need to do each day. Include class times, homework, study sessions, and breaks. A schedule helps you see how your day looks and keeps you on track.

2. Set Priorities

Not all tasks are equally important. Do the most important or urgent things first. If a test is coming up, study for it before working on smaller tasks.

3. Use a Planner or Calendar

Whether it’s on paper or on your phone, a planner helps you remember deadlines, exams, and events. It’s easier to plan your time when you can see what’s coming.

4. Avoid Procrastination

It’s easy to say “I’ll do it later,” but that leads to stress. Try using the “Pomodoro Technique” — work for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break. This can help you stay focused.

5. Take Breaks

Don’t forget to rest. Short breaks between tasks can help your brain stay fresh and focused. Just don’t let a short break turn into a long nap!

6. Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is important for your brain. Try to get 7–9 hours of sleep each night. When you’re well-rested, it’s easier to focus and manage your time.

7. Say No When Needed

Sometimes you have to say no to plans or extra work so you can focus on school. It’s okay to protect your time.

Finally

Time management isn’t about doing everything — it’s about doing what matters most. With a little planning and practice, you can take control of your time and succeed in school without feeling overwhelmed.
